Today many people own surveillance systems that report to an app instead of a security company. They notify you via the app if there is activity (motion, extreme heat, smoke, loud noise) happening at your home while you are way. Those are fantastic tools to give you a peace of mind if you are at work or just away from home for a little bit. We recommend to give access to the app to a friend or family member while you are away. Why? Here is why, let’s assume you went on vacation to Patagonia and someone broke into your house, your surveillance system sends a message to your phone to alert you of the break in. You, however, have no internet connection while hiking the Patagonian mountains, so it does you no good that a notification went out. And even if you got the notification, now you have to make an expensive international phone call to alert the local authorities to send someone out to check on your place. Instead, if a friend or relative had access to the app, they would get the notification almost instantly and it will cost them nothing but a few minutes of their time to call the authorities and send them out. So, don’t feel bad…just ask for assistance while you are out of town. They would be happy to help you!
