To see a penguin you normally have to go to a zoo…but how about visiting them in their own natural environment. There are few places on Earth where you can do that..one of them is Patagonia. Just about a two hour ferry ride from Punta Arenas, Chile you can visit the small island of Isla Magdalena which over 100,000 penguins call home. We got to spend about one hour walking around the island and admiring the beauty and clumsiness of the Magellanic penguins. They are cute beyond belief and fascinating to observe. I wanted to go and hug them, but unfortunately, you are not allowed to get closer than 3 feet to them. Be careful, because the penalties for touching a penguin a extremely steep…not worth it!
