On a recent trip to my home country of Bulgaria, we were visiting my aunt who lives in the south of the Rodopa mountain region of Bulgaria. We had discussed going to the Black Sea, but the 4-5 hour drive seemed less than appealing. So instead, we decided to head down to Greece. Only about an hour drive from Kardzhali, we found ourselves in the small, quite town of Fanari. It was such a peaceful little town. The restaurants were not crowded with tourists, the Aegean Sea water was crystal clear and the beaches were empty…just like I would envision a peaceful, much needed vacation. Since it was so close to where we were staying in Bulgaria, there was no need to get a hotel for the night, we just drove back home. I guess, sometimes you don’t have to go far to find peace, quite, endless relaxation…and a new stamp in my passport!
